About BLACK CURRANT: The black currant (Ribes nigrum) is native to central and northern Europe and northern Asia. It was in cultivation in Russia by the 11th century when it was present in monastery gardens and also grown in towns and settlements. Cultivation in Europe is thought to have started around the last decades of the 17th century.
Blackcurrant fruits are a good source of minerals and vitamins, especially vitamin C (several times the recommended daily dietary reference intake per 100 g), good levels of potassium, phosphorus, iron, manganese and vitamin B5, and a broad range of other essential nutrients. They have diuretic and diaphoretic actions, help to increase bodily resistance to infections. Anthocyanidins have putative antioxidant and radical-scavenging effects which may protect cells from oxidative damage and reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases and cancer.
Color and taste can vary because it is a product which is dependent on seasonal fluctuations.
