Easter eggs
"Dyeing Easter eggs using natural dyes

This is the first year I've tried dyeing eggs naturally. After reading on a blogger post about how terrible and full of chemicals most daisy dyes are, I decided that I don't want to dye unnaturally. Those chemical dyes always scared me, especially if they soaked through the shell! I will try to describe a few painting methods that I tried first. Don't be afraid, if I succeeded the first time, you can do it too! When dyeing with natural dyes, the most important thing is to use light eggs: either completely white or light cream. Dark browns will be more difficult to dye, but stronger dyes should work. Only the colors will not be so bright, they will be much darker." - Indre

1. DYEING WITH TURMERIC POWDER

  • 1 pack of turmeric powder (about 40 g)
  • 3 cups of water
  • 2 spoons of vinegar (you can use apple vinegar)
  • a pinch of salt

Add the turmeric powder to the pan. You can cook eggs in this decoction. When cooked the eggs, leave them in the turmeric decoction for 12 hours or less. The brightness of the color will depend on how long you keep it in the decoction. Some eggs will be bright yellow, others may take on an orange hue. You can wrap the eggs in onion skins for even more colors.

2. DYEING WITH RED CABBAGE

  • 1/2 shredded red cabbage (choose as large as possible)
  • 3 cups of water
  • 2 spoons of vinegar

You can cook eggs together with cabbage or add already boiled eggs. I boiled the cabbage for about 15 minutes until the water turned purple. I wrapped some eggs in onion skins and kept the eggs in the decoction for 12 hours. Some turned out to be bluish, electric. Where it was with onion skins, it turned red.

3. DYEING WITH RED CABBAGE AND TURMERIC POWDER

Everything is very simple. First, leave the eggs in the turmeric decoction for 6 hours. After 6 hours, put it in the cabbage broth and keep it for the same number of hours. You will get green colored eggs.
